Good list of sites – all very clean. I’m surprised you included free open source templates with minimal changes but that’s the power of open source nowadays, always getting better.

As a web designer, I get to see things from both sides of the fence. What looks good to humans, yes the sites above are very impressive looking, hurts the search engine efforts of the site. What improves search engine optimization, is actually poor for human consumption. You have to serve two masters, humans and search engines. Web designers are being pressed more and more into striking a balance between what the customer wants, what the search engines want and what works.

I have to agree… I visit the Buck Knives site regularly and it is one of the best designs I have seen. The banner ad is really cool on the actual site itself… Here is another recently re-designed site that you should check out… http://www.sharppocketknives.com/. I’d be interested in your feedback.

I like the design of Arkansas Outdoors Online, Charlie. Thanks for sharing.

It follows a similar theme as some of my other favorites above – outdoor feel with the fence-like background and old paper overlay images. Very cool.

Plus I love the white background behind the text. It makes it easy to read.

I like the tips you have in the blog too. Especially the post Wildlife Photography Tip: Rule of Thirds
